As a woman and a mother, I am always looking for ways to improve myself. I like to go to conferences and listen to women motivational speakers. I feel like they are speaking more directly to me and that they understand where I am coming from and what my challenges are. The men speakers are nice, too, but they just don’t understand the challenges that women face in the world today. I was recently reading the local newspaper and saw an advertisement for a woman motivational speaker coming to the local university. I checked my calendar and told my husband that I was going to be busy that night.
When I got to the meeting room I was surprised to find that we would actually be listening to two women motivational speakers. One of the women spoke about the need to cultivate friendships in order to strengthen our personal sense of well being. I had never really thought about it before, but I realized that when I did have time with my friends, I was happier. She said that it didn’t have to be face to face, but phone calls, letters and emails worked just as well in keeping us positive. I know that I need to be better at staying in touch with my friends. I was glad for the reminder from my motivational speaker.
