My dad is a large animal veterinarian. He works mostly with farm animals and travels around to meet his clients. My dad mostly takes care of horses and cows. Because we live in a farming community, my dad has a lot of work. Especially in the summer months. My first summer home from college, I spent a lot of time working with my dad. I rode with him to take care of all of his clients. A major job we did was give horses horse supplements. My dad administered horse supplements by giving the horses a shot. The needles he used to administer the shots were pretty big, but they didn’t seem to bother the horses at all.
Another job I really enjoyed was helping the horses and cows give birth. The animals basically knew what to do themselves, but my dad was always there for support if they needed it. Watching a cow or horse give birth is the most amazing thing I have ever seen. The little baby colts and cows are so cute when they are born. I especially loved how wobbly they were on their legs.
Working with my dad that summer was an amazing experience. It made me want to become a veterinarian.
