My Medicine Hat dentist loves for me to come for my semi-annual checkups. The last time I was there, he complimented me on my oral hygiene and told me that I had hygienist’s teeth. In other words, he told me I did a great job of cleaning my teeth at home. Over the years, our dentist has been a great educator for the entire family. When we follow his instructions, our dental checkups go very smoothly. This means we have to thoroughly brush our teeth at least twice each day, and we also have to floss every day.
Our family Medicine Hat dentist told us that he can immediately tell if his patients do not floss, or if they just floss sporadically. He told me to purchase a special mouth rinse for my children to use that would leave colored areas where they had missed with their brushing and flossing. Since we have been using the rinse, my children’s teeth have been much cleaner. Even though they still have some of their baby teeth, I realize that the health of their permanent teeth could be affected if they do not take care of their baby teeth.
One of the most important things we can do to simplify our dentist’s job is to see him twice each year. Putting off dental appointments just increases the likelihood of developing problems.
